Steps To Sanitize Reverse Osmosis System

We have brought a step by step guide to sanitize reverse osmosis system so that you can easily understand every tiny detail of the process. 

  1. Get the filters and membrane ready for replacement, but don’t open them until the end.
  2. Make sure you switch off the water supply connected to the RO system.
  3. If the system is connected to your refrigerator, dishwasher, or ice maker, make sure to disconnect is as well.
  4. Now wash your hands, wear your gloves, and eye protection gear.
  5. Drain the whole system by opening the RO filter faucet. Once it is done, close the faucet.
  6. Open the housing, take out the filter, and remove the pre-filter from there.
  7. Repeat the process for the others filter as well and remove the membrane.
  8. Pour the sanitizer or unscented bleach in the pre-filter housing and switch the water back on to refill the system. It can take 15 to 20 minutes for the tank to refill.
  9. Open the faucet and allow the whole system to drain again. You will need to completely flush the system to allow the cleaner to rinse. Do this process at least twice for perfect results. 
  10. If you are still doubtful about any foul smell or taste in the water, you can repeat the flushing process once more.
  11. Turn off the water supply one more time. Open all the housings and replace the filters.
  12. Switch the water and recheck for any loose fittings or leak.
  13. Wait for your tank to be refilled again. 
  14. Don’t forget to re-connect your dishwasher or refrigerator!
  15. When it is done, you can have clean and purified water once again. With this easy guideline, you can enjoy the best water drinking experience

Tips Before You Sanitize

  • If you are sanitizing the system for installing new filters, make sure all the filters remain packed until the sanitization is completed.
  • The area where you are cleaning your RO system should be free from any excess dust or dirt. 
  • Wear gloves or wash your hands properly with soap after sanitization.
